Stanford 100 Miler brings the curtain down on the gravel season with a ride built for grit, and glory

The rural dirt roads of the Overstrand are set to host South Africa’s most anticipated gravel-cycling events as the Stanford 100 Miler returns on 6 December 2025.

Now in its fourth edition, this handcrafted event from the team behind the industry shaping cycling event Tanqua Kuru Bicycle Race has grown in stature and ambition, attracting many of South Africa’s top gravel and endurance riders while maintaining its hallmark mix of authenticity, community, and pure riding joy.

Nestled in the heart of the Overstrand, the route winds through some of the country’s most spectacular terrain and unique quaint villages, looping from and returning to the historic town of Stanford, offering riders an uncompromising and unforgettable finish to the year’s gravel calendar.

Marking the grand finale of South Africa’s gravel season, the Stanford 100 Miler is the ultimate end-of-year ride: one last chance to turn the season’s hard work into dust-covered satisfaction on some of the best gravel roads the country has to offer.

This year, the event expands with the introduction of a 25 Miler, created for new gravel riders eager to experience the thrill of racing off-road without the full distance. This route is perfect for e-bike riders. It’s a welcoming yet challenging route designed to grow the gravel community and open the experience to more riders.

Race options include:

  • 100 Miler: 169 km | 2 360 m ascent | 80 % dirt
  • 50 Miler: 77 km | 1 365 m ascent | 90 % dirt
  • 25 Miler (NEW): a compact route for riders chasing their first taste of gravel glory

The 100-mile course features clay hard-pack roads, long stretches of pristine gravel and punchy climbs toward the closing stages, terrain built for rouleurs and gravel purists alike, while the shorter routes deliver the same spirit of adventure with fewer kilometres.

“Each year the Stanford 100 Miler grows in stature and spirit,” says organiser Jeremy Crowder. “We’re proud that the event consistently attracts South Africa’s strongest riders while welcoming a new generation into the gravel fold. As the final major ride of the calendar, it’s a celebration of everything we love about this sport, grit, freedom, and the open road.”
